If you have a chance to see A Christmas Carol, do it. If you have a chance to see it in 3D or 3D Imax, you must do it! Disney takes this classic story by Charles Dickens and, sticking very closely to the original story, brings it to life in a stunning way. The graphics will be the first thing that takes your breath away. These computer-generated images are incredibly detailed, very realistic, and have a very natural movement to them. In 3D, it's a stunning combination! Plus you get the added bonus of that tingling sensation between your eyes for the first 15 minutes or so, while your optic nerves work in overdrive to make sense of the images. Don't worry, you adjust quickly, and I'm sure there's no permanent damage done. Yep. I was impressed with their use of 3D—there were no cheesy 3D-isms, like someone jumping off the screen and seemingly into your lap. Instead, they used it to really bring the story to life.

This movie is geared more toward older children and adults, it seems, as some parts could be scary for little ones. Jim Carey did an impressive portrayal of Scrooge and the three Christmas Ghosts. I would not have recognized his voice for all four characters if I didn't know it was him (in fact, I didn't realize he played the ghosts until I saw the credits).

Disney chose to stick closely to the original story—no great artistic liberties here as far as plot goes. They succeeded in perfecting the atmosphere, mood, and characters, though, and have created a classic masterpiece that will be around for a long time.

Overall, I give this movie a rating of 4 Fat Hobbits! (That's good)

I am not fat!

And, if I am, it's my wife's fault!

That's it. I'm making a hobbit so that I can join Lebigmac in taking offense at EVERY hobbit comment.
